Cable Strand Manufacturer

Strand

There are a few definitions used throughout the world to describe strand. Wire-rope, cable or strand
are all common names for the component in the cable that transfers force from one end to the other. Loads, routing, efficiency, environment and durability all have a significant effect on what material
and construction will be used when picking the appropriate strand for use in the cable. GRC uses many common galvanized and stainless steel strand constructions, the most common are below:

  • GAC – solid wire, 1x7, 1x19, 7x7, 7x19, 8x7+1x19, 1x13, 1x15
  • SS – 1x7, 1x19, 7x7, 7x19
  • Diameter - .76mm, 1.14mm, 1.5mm, 2.24mm, 2.36mm, 3.81mm, 4.80mm

Strand Coatings

Sometimes for appearance, environment and durability it is necessary to coat the strand with plastic, GRC has worked with the following materials for coating strand: Nylon 6, Nylon 66, nylon 11, nylon 12, HDPE, LDPE, custom blended Nylon with PTFE and Silicon.

Reinforced Conduit

Conduit also is called by many names in the cable industry including outer housing/casing, Bowden, and conduit. Typically, for most of the applications we provide, conduit consists of three components:

  • Internal liner
  • Wrapped by reinforcement wire
  • Extruded casing on the outside

Loads, routing, efficiency, environment and durability all play into what conduit construction is best for your application. GRC provides many types of custom constructions utilizing many materials for conduits, the most common are listed below.

  • Liner - HPDE, Acetal, Teflon
  • Reinforcement - Flatwrap, Braided, Stranded (laywire)
  • Jacket - LPDE, Nylon 66, PVC, Nylon (fire retardant)

Picking the right strand and conduit is critical to the performance of your mechanical control cable assembly. Please feel free to contact us so that we may assist you in selecting the right construction for your application.
